Barbarians are muscular attackable NPCs found at the Barbarian Village, west of Varrock and the Outpost, and east of Falador. Barbarians can be spoken to, but will almost always respond with hostility ("Wanna fight?", "You come to fight, ja?") and immediately attack.
Most barbarians are below level 20 but the Confused barbarians within the Ancient Cavern are level 132. Barbarians are usually trained on by lower-levelled players. Although they hit low (2 is the max hit for the level 9/10s, and 3 is the max hit for the level 15/17s), they are somewhat accurate. It should be noted that the barbarians can have different weapons, most of which are nonexistent for players, and they vary in accuracy against certain armour types.
There are only few barbarian weapons available for players, the most prominent of which is the one-handed, spear-like Hasta. If a player is like most melee fighters, attacking a Barbarian while wearing plate armour, they should avoid the barbarians wielding hammers and try to only fight the ones with spears and swords.
Similar to Jellies, every individual Barbarian in the Barbarian Village has his/her own examine text.

[edit] Barbarian skills
The barbarians also have their own kind of skills, such as bare-handed Fishing and lighting logs without a tinderbox. Players can learn these useful techniques from Otto Godblessed, found south of the Barbarian Outpost. Players may also find a level 35 Agility Course at the Outpost.

[edit] Trivia
- When a level 17 barbarian attacks with the axe, the attacks sounds like attacking with a Dharok's greataxe on Crush mode.
- There is a lone barbarian woman at The Blue Moon Inn, her examine info is: Don't let her arm-wrestle you for money.
- When RS2 was first released, there were only level 7 barbarian and level 8 barbarian woman. Then, Jagex changed it so there were different variations of barbarians as well as a new graphical update for barbarian village. At first when they updated it, the barbarians were aggressive, but too many low-levelled players died so it was changed so that they were non-aggressive.
- They seem to be German or Eastern European
- When you use an empty beer glass on the barrels in the barbarian hall the barbarians not being attacked say "Oi - that's ours"
