Axeman's folly (m) detail

Mature axeman's folly is player-made ale, created by brewing via the cooking skill, requiring a level of 49. When drunk this item provides a temporary boost to the player's Woodcutting level of 2 while reducing Attack and Strength by 4 levels. It is the stronger, or "mature" version of the standard Axeman's Folly, which adds only one level to Woodcutting. It cannot be used to enter the Sawmill Training area, but can be used for purposes such as the Evil Tree hunting and Ancient Effigies. Axeman's Folly is most often used in quests with woodcutting requirements that players do not already meet.

When brewing Axeman's Folly, there is somewhat random chance that the batch will turn out mature. As maturation occurs during the brewing process, leaving normal ale in the vat after it has finished brewing will not cause it to turn mature or go bad. The chance of getting a mature ale can be increased by adding The stuff to the vat after adding the barley malt, and before adding the hops (or in this case, root).

The full recipe for standard axeman's folly is as follows (in the order given):

  1. 2 Buckets of Water
  2. 2 Barley Malt.
  3. (optional) 1 "The Stuff," to increase chance of maturity.
  4. 1 Oak Roots
  5. 1 Ale Yeast
  6. Wait two to five days
  7. Collect the completed ale using eight Beer Glasses or two Calquat Kegs*. This makes an axeman's folly (m) (keg).

Note that when collected in 2 calquat kegs, this brew is worth a relatively substantial amount of money. Given that oak roots are received from the inexpensive acorn, axeman's folly is fairly inexpensive to produce. Players with a decent Cooking level should have no trouble creating mature axeman's folly, especially if they are able to obtain a few of "the stuff."
