The axe, also called hatchet in Runescape Classic, or specifically Woodcutting axe, is the tool necessary for Woodcutting. It is classified as a melee weapon, available in all varieties of metal, although its power and speed are less favourable than some other weapons. Alternatively, they can be used to slash webs (players can also use a knife for this). Also, an axe can always be found on the wood stump at the chicken farm in the north west section of Lumbridge.
