Template:Beta The Attack speed of a weapon determines the rate of attack of a player wielding that weapon. This is a factor which is often considered by players when forming strategies for activities such as player-killing. Weapons such as the abyssal whip and the dragon dagger are extremely popular because of their high attack speed.
The speed of each weapon is represented by a bar on which there are several possible values ranging from 10 (theoretical maximum, though if the speed were 10, there would be a delay of "0" between attacks) to 1 (slowest). The bar is separated into ten squares of red, yellow, and green . The value represents the number of squares shown, with 10 displaying a full bar and 0 displaying an empty bar. The delay time in ticks between each attack is equal to 10 − speed value, and therefore the delay time in seconds between attacks is (10 − speed value) x 0.6. If the attack mode is set to Rapid, the speed value increases by 1. If the attack speed of a weapon is 8 or higher the player will hit again before the previous damage vanishes (currently, 8 is the highest attack speed available). If a player is under the effect of a Miasmic spell, his or her melee and ranged attack speed will be slowed by 50%.
All the weapons with rapid style are arranged according to the attacking speed without using rapid style. There is no weapon at all that has natural attack speed of 8, but using rapid style can achieve it.
|Speed 8 (Interval: 1.2 seconds)||N/A||Very Fast||An attack speed of 8 is only available to members, and particularly only reached by using rapid style to the already fastest weapons. It is popular to use low class darts and throwing knives to fend off weak nuisance enemies and is also used by some players to deactivate an Elite black knight's prayer.|
|Speed 7 (Interval: 1.8 seconds)||Shortbows, Sling, Kayle's Sling, Hunter's crossbow, Karil's crossbow, Toktz-Xil-Ul||Fast||The fastest of any regular weapon type, a speed value of 7 is reserved for only the fastest Ranged weapons. Popular for training. Note that shortbows and slings (including Kayle's sling) with rapid attacking style have attack speed of 7, making them the fastest weapons in F2P.|
|Speed 6 (Interval: 2.4 seconds)||Daggers, shortswords, scimitars, Shortbows, Sling, Kayle's Sling, Hunter's crossbow, Karil's crossbow, Toktz-Xil-Ul, claws, Zamorakian Spear, Saradomin Sword, Toktz-Xil-Ak, Toktz-Xil-Ek, Abyssal whip, Sling, God staves, Slayer staff, Ancient staff, Gravite and Chaotic rapier, Storm of Armadyl when using an Armadyl battlestaff||Standard||A notch down from the rapid-fire Ranged weapons are the quickest melee weapons, the faster staves, a variety of obsidian weapons, and the shortbows, along with a few crossbows. Many melee users prefer these weapons to whittle down an enemy's health before using a more powerful (and much slower) "finishing weapon".|
|Speed 5 (Interval: 3.0 seconds)||Longswords, maces, hatchets, spears, pickaxes, TzHaar-Ket-Em, Torag's hammers, Guthan's warspear, Verac's flail, all Magic spells, normal and elemental staves, normal, elemental, and mystic battlestaves, Iban's staff, Staff of light, Salamanders, Maple longbow (sighted), Magic longbow (sighted), Throwing axes, Ogre composite bow, Crystal bow, Seercull, Gravite and Chaotic longsword||Longbows,God bows, Javelins, Dorgeshuun crossbow, Metal crossbows, Zaryte bow, Sagaie, Bolas||Slow||This category contains weapons that sacrifice a small amount of speed for more damage, which is preferred by some players and disliked by others. The barrows melee weapons are sometimes used by advanced players. The Dragon longsword and Crystal bow are also common among players.|
|Speed 4 (Interval: 3.6 seconds)||
Battleaxes, warhammers, the Godsword, Barrelchest anchor, Ahrim's staff, Toktz-Mej-Tal, mauls within Daemonheim, Gravite 2h sword and chaotic maul (Dungeoneering rewards), Longbows, God bows, Javelins, Dorgeshuun crossbow, Metal crossbows, Zaryte bow, Phoenix Crossbow, Crossbow, Sagaie, Bolas, Auspicious katana
|Hand cannon||Very slow||These are often the more powerful weapons of choice, medium speed good for final blows or training on creatures that have large amounts of health or defence, but do not deal high amounts of damage. This category also contains many commonly used ranged weapons.|
|Speed 3 (Interval: 4.2 seconds)||Two-handed swords, halberds, Granite maul, Balmung, TzHaar-Ket-Om, Ivandis flail, Hand cannon and Dharok's greataxe||Extremely slow||A speed value of 3 seems to be reserved for two-handed melee weapons, which make their first appearance excluding the Godsword and spears. The Dharok's greataxe, the obsidian maul, the dragon two-handed sword, and the dragon halberd are all notables which remain popular among those who like strength over attack speed.|
|Speed 2 (Interval: 4.8 seconds)||Dark bow||Extremely slow||This weapon is almost exclusively used for Chompy hunting. Even though the Ogre composite bow is faster, the Ogre bow may be preferred because of its longer range. If you haven't completed Zogre Flesh Eaters, this is the only option available for hunting the elusive birds.|
|Speed 1 (Interval: 5.4 seconds)||Dark bow||N/A||Extremely slow||This bow is the only bow able to fire dragon arrows and can hit up to 500+ with appropriate equipment, and fires two arrows at once. This weapon is often used by players attempting to kill their opponent with a single hit.|
|Speed 0 (Interval: 6.0 seconds)||N/A||Extremely slow||Dreadnips deployable creatures rewarded from Dominion Tower that attack with a speed rating of 0, or once every six seconds. They can deal high amounts of typeless damage, as well as poisoning and binding targets. Swagger Stick is a fun weapon obtained from the Squeal of Fortune.|
|File:Speedanim.gif||Only the Dwarf multicannon||N/A||While the dwarf multicannon cannot be truly equipped, its rate of attack depends on the amount of enemies in range, and could be the fastest of any weapon if it is used properly.|
- ^ a b c d e While staves may have varying Melee Attack Speeds, they have the same spell-casting speed of 5.
- ^ Storm of Armadyl itself has an attack speed of 5, but when casted while wielding an Armadyl Battlestaff, the attack speed is instead 6.
