Armoured zombie/Strategies

< Armoured zombie
Armoured zombies are frequently killed for melee experience because they have 850 lifepoints, low defence, and are in proximity of an altar. They also have fairly decent drops, many of which are stackable. The most popular methods for killing armoured zombies are outlined below.

Protection prayer method
Edit

A player may use protection prayers to kill the zombies because of the nearby altar. The zombies use both ranged and melee attacks, but normally protect from melee is used. This strategy gives 80k-100k experience per hour. This strategy also relies on the fact that the zombies are aggressive. It is unlikely that the zombies will become tolerant (non-aggressive). If it does happen, simply climb the ladder to the altar and return. This will cause the zombies to become aggressive again.
Equipment
Edit
For maximum prayer bonus it is recommended to use the following:
- Helm: Helm of neitiznot
- Amulet: Salve amulet (e)
- Chest: Proselyte hauberk
- Legs: Proselyte tasset / Proselyte cuisse
- Boots Bandos boots > Dragon boots
- Cape: Soul wars cape / Ardougne cloak 3 (For prayer bonus)
- Ring: Explorer's ring / Ring of Wealth (can be placed in inventory and equipped with final blow)/Ring of life
- Gloves: Barrows gloves
- Weapon: Saradomin sword / Korasi's Sword / Staff of light, / Abyssal whip (only for attack and defence)
- Shield: Dragon defender / Toktz-ket-xil / Dragonfire shield
Inventory
Edit
- Super Set (4 dose) - Super attack, Super strength, and Super defence potions
- Food - Tuna, Lobster, Swordfish, or Monkfish. Bring at least 12 pieces. Low level players may need more.
- Familiar pouches (Lifepoint boosting or Beast of Burden)
- A dose of summoning potion for each pouch
- Optional: Guthan's armour
Tactic

- Choose your quick selection prayers. Use protect from melee, the best stat boosting prayer possible, and a rapid heal prayer.
- Use a dose of your stat boosting potions.
- Summon your familiar.
- Enter the dungeon and turn on quick prayers.
- Let your character kill the aggressive zombies.
- Pick up any stackable drops.
- Use the ladder and recharge your prayer at the altar when it gets low.
- Optional: Switch to Guthan's armour at around 30-40% health.
Tank method
Edit
The player may also tank armoured zombies. By using strong defensive armour, such as Bandos armour or Barrows equipment coupled with a healing method (such as a Bunyip or the Saradomin Godsword or Enhanced excalibur) there's little need for protection prayers or food.

Dungeoneering prayer method
Edit
This method requires a Bonecrusher and any of the prayer restoring Dungeoneering necklaces. When killing zombies, the Bonecrusher will automatically bury the bones and the necklace will restore ten prayer points per bone buried. This allows the player to have almost infinite prayer points and requires many less trips to the altar. The only downside is that the player cannot also wear the stat boosting Salve amulet (e). This disadvantage makes it somehow not worth the usage because the amulet will already give the boosts close to piety/turmoil already so removing infinite 20% of the amulet to have infinite amount of piety/turmoil alone doesn't make it worth it that much.

Berserker method
Edit
This Method relies on maximum damage output to recover health. By utilizing the combined bonus' of void knight and the salve amulet (e) coupled with the Saradomin Godsword's passive healing ability (and soul split) there is little need for food due to the massive potientail for damage.

Tips for all methods
Edit
- It is more important to wear armour with high strength and prayer bonuses rather than defence bonuses.
- Use a fast attacking weapon. Slow weapons such as the Godsword are not recommended because they result in less experience per hour.
- To minimise trips to the bank, utilise many healing methods including the Enhanced excalibur, Guthan's warspear, Soul Split, and Summoning familiars. (Bunyip, Unicorn stallion)
- Using stat boosting prayers increases the experience per hour.
- Only pick up the stackable drops to save inventory space.
- Bring one dose of summoning potion for each familiar pouch.
- There is only one zombie that uses ranged located near the entrance. Further in, however, there are more.
- The experience per hour drops drastically when there are three or more people. On the other hand, it is recommended to use a populated world for the faster respawn rate. If too many people show up, simply leave, and find a new world. Try non-English servers.
- Logging out near the altar will cause you to return to Hartwin when you log back in. Near the starting point, there is a safe area where players can log out, and stay inside Zemouregal's Base upon logging back in. This is useful for when server hopping.
- It is sometimes difficult to see the colour of the crest on the zombies' heads through the clouds of mist, so the player may want to turn on the sound effects. The melee zombies attack with a trademark zombie grunting sound. Ranged zombies attack with a spinning, hissing sound. Players may try lowering the camera angle and adjusting monitor brightness.
- Climb back up the ladder at around 50 prayer points remaining to ensure maximum points are spent in the dungeon each trip.
- For those who desire to train effortlessly, travel deeper into the tunnels where fewer players are found. This area requires little to no attention. However, it is recommended only for high levels and those using the tank method.
- The Bones to Peaches spell or tablet is also effective here. Not only do the zombies have a 100% drop of bones, but multiple sets of bones respawn around the altar outside the dungeon. This can be a source of infinite health.
- Using an Obsidian Golem and the Volcanic Strength scroll doesn't boost as much as a super strength potion but it's a cheaper alternative.
- Elite Void Knight equipment can be used in place of prayer boosting armours.
