The Arcane spirit shield was released on 15 September 2008 along with Summer's end. It requires 75 Defence, 70 Prayer and 65 Magic to wield. The shield is made by attaching an Arcane sigil to a Blessed spirit shield. To do this, players need 90 Prayer and 85 Smithing. Smithing the shield gives 1,800 smithing exp. Alternatively, you can ask Brother Bordiss to attach it for 1,500,000 coins after completing Perils of Ice Mountain.

The shield gives slightly better defence bonuses than the Dragon sq shield, and its Crush defence is significantly higher than that of the Dragon sq shield. This shield also gives the best Magic offence bonus of all other shields and/or books in RuneScape. Previously, that title belonged to the Mage's book, which has five less Magic offence.

It is the only Spirit shield to give a magic attack bonus. Although it is a mage shield, this shield surpasses most warrior shields in terms of defence. Very wealthy players may find this shield essential. It is the most common spirit shield used for player killing, due to its magic offence and melee defences.
