The Afflicted are villagers of Mort'ton who were cursed by Lord Lowerniel Vergidiyad Drakan's evil gust of wind. They speak nonsense to the player if talked to.
The Afflicted may be cured temporarily by either of the two serums, Serum 207 or Serum 208. After curing the afflicted, the cured villager will give the player rewards of various types, many related to making the cures. The Serum 208 yields better rewards from villagers.
They could be references to the Afflicted from the game GuildWars Factions, who are victims to a deadly plague on the continent of Cantha, and are hideous creatures that are very dangerous.
These are also extremely useful for lower level players attempting barrows, who have ran out of food, as if you bring 3 bones to peaches tablets each trip, it can save lots of time, considering peaches heal 8hp, and bones are a 100% drop.
