2011 marked the 12th anniversary of the formation of Jagex, and the 10th anniversary of the release of RuneScape.

- King of the Dwarves is released.
- 10 January: Nex is released, along with the God Wars Dungeon expansion, featuring the Ancient Prison.
- 14 January: End of the Vote for "Bring back The Wilderness and Free-Trade" referendum.

- The Hati wolf is released.
- The first server blackout of 2011 occurs.
February
- 1 February: The Wilderness and Free Trade was returned into the game.
- 9 February: The Prisoner of Glouphrie quest is released.
- Gnomes receive a graphical update.
- The option to remove the Profanity Filter is added.
- 21 February: WildyWyrms are added and drops from Nex are also updated.

- 7 November: One Piercing Note quest is released introducing new member's only area.
- 22 November: New Website design and logo released, 2011 Thanksgiving event released as well as new anti-gold botting measurements.
- 28 November: Polypore Dungeon is released, bringing with it an array of new Slayer monsters and Magic based armour.
December
- 6 December: Batch 3 of Loyalty Rewards is released along with the toolbelt and money pouch. 30 more bank space is also released for members.
- 13 December: The Flash Powder Factory is released, along with new Chatboxes and an extensive Wilderness graphical update.
- 20 December: The 2011 Christmas event is released.
