14 hour riot
From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape
The 14 hour riot was a major protest (by the day's standards, but is usually much smaller than more recent riots, like the Pay to PK Riot) against Jagex that occurred in World 28 in Falador (and partly on the Ice Plateau) on 24 February 2007.
According to several threads on the RuneScape forums, a famous PKer named Elvemage was muted for luring another player.
It is not known at this time where the player was lured to, but it most likely was within the wilderness. It is also said that Elvemage said the phrase "Mods should burn in hell"[source needed] when a moderator was present, and was muted immediately. A riot broke out in Falador due to this, and several people were muted because of their spiteful comments toward moderators and the Jagex staff. The players, and maybe some of the moderators, were protesting that permanent bans and mutes were unfair, and some of the players were yelling, "Ban the bans!". Many of those who participated in the riot set up cannons and used the Retribution prayer, symbolising their anger. Many of the rioters' comments were spam.
This riot is generally dismissed by many players as being a "no issue" riot and often viewed too simply have been an excuse to incite chaos by rowdy players.
On May 11th 2009, the RuneScape rules were updated, unbanning Elvemage, as he now appears in the hiscores.

The 14 hour riot caused Jagex to re-look its stance on luring. 2 days previously, on 22nd of February, before Elvemage was muted, luring was said to be allowed within the Rules of Conduct. After the riot, other players were outraged that luring was allowed, and saw an explosion in popularity with luring. Some players at this point quit, disappointed that Jagex had made RuneScape a game in which deception is rewarded. Finally, on the 29th of March, 2007, luring was again made against the rules.
