Forum:Clan chat - Extend a hand
From the RuneScape Wiki, the wiki for all things RuneScape
Considering how much we discuss bringing in more new people, I would like to point out a chance we have to do so on an ongoing basis. And that is by being helpful and friendly in our clan chat to new folks that pop in out of nowhere. Now, I see we have friendly covered pretty well, I've never seen rudeness to a new person. And that is great, it is good for us. The helpful bit, while we often are, can at times be very hit or miss depending on who is in the clan chat. Now I fully understand that at times it can be very very annoying and irritating to have some one ask numerous "noobie" questions and it can be tiresome to keep telling the same people who refuse to look it up themselves. This is not about those people. I am talking about the new peeps that have little to no idea what the wiki is or is about. Now I don't want to stand here and say any one in the clan chat is automatically responsible to look up anything a new person asks at demand. No. We are ingame trying to accomplish our own tasks, I get that. All I am saying is, if no one is able to help the new person, let's always try to direct them in a positive rather than a negative manner. Show that we are a great community even if we can't help at this moment. I direct people to our clan chat when I am unable to help them and I think it is some thing that could really benefit us and them. And isn't that why we joined the wiki in the first place? To add to what is already here to help other people with the game?--Degenret01 00:10, November 13, 2009 (UTC)
Comment - I always try to help out people in need when they need it. Even if I don't know, I usually look it up and learn a new thing myself. If I see someone directing in a negative manner, I'll try to tell them to positively redirect people next time.

Comment - Sounds good. We try to help everyone by adding information here, why not do it in-game? I'd love to see our CC to be considered a CC where anyone can go at anytime for help and advice.

Comment - I totally agree with all, especially D4K. What irritates me though is people who join, say "hi" and leave 10 seconds later. If you want help, give it some time!
Cheers,

Comment - Being nice to the newcomers sounds great. We were all noobs at one point in time (trying RSC vividly reminded me of that). I think is always good to be polite and friendly, and Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers. I don't really think anyone would be opposed to this, but we may forget and need reminding. Strong support It's disheartening in a way to see that someone feels the need to point this out, because we should be doing it anyway. :-| It's something that we should all keep in mind any time we're in the cc. Leevclarke talk

Comment - The main reason I'm always in the clan chat when I'm playing is not just to simply chat, but to help others. Knowing that you've made things easier for someone is always a good feeling.
