Review sites are a dime-a-dozen, but opinions are not.
— Planned slogan
NOTE: Yes, you will be able to review things as well. It's not gonna' be a one man show.

Ever since multiple months ago, the wiki-creation system for Wikia has become automated, and no vote or presentation is longer needed to persuade staff to make the said wiki. Since, personal wikis have sprung up—Joeyaa Wiki, for example.

I've thought about having my own personal wiki, but I had never really successfully thought about what its contents would be. I've considered [and ignored most of] the following:

  • List of my friends/buddies (didn't like that idea)
  • A blog (I hate blogs! No way.)
  • A sort of hub for other wiki/sites I edit/use (perhaps)
  • A sort-of-image-hosting website (meh, seems selfish)
  • A collection of short stories I've written (I want them kept secret from the Interwebs' relentless relentlessness :P)
  • A review site (now this appealed to me)

The idea of a review site came into my head maybe a week and a half ago and has stuck with me since.

Before this unveiling, I've only told Cash, Telos, Enigma and Soldier about my idea, but all are welcome to contribute (see resquirements below XD).

Contents

Content

As oppposed to other review sites, such as Allmusic or Trancecritic (link "is broken" whenever I try it), both of which specialize in a specific thing to review, this review site would have multiple somewhat-broad categories. Not random things like reviews of elements or reviews of animals, but reviews of different things that would be reviewed, I guess. I've decided to have the following categories for sure:

  1. Music
  2. Anime/Manga (possibly merged with the TV show and/or book category (see below))
  3. Video games
  4. Other (see below)

I'm currently considering the following categories, and will put them in only depending on how many reviews they would get to get them taken out of the "Other" category:

  • TV shows
  • Books

If you think a specific category should be added, just say so and state some examples that would go in it.

Review possibilites

Under the three main currently planned categories (note that I have manga and anime in the list below seperated just to make it easier to distinguish apart), I, personally would be able to do at least the following reviews:

  • Music
    • Gigi D'Agostino - L'Amour Toujours
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Tecno Fes, vol. 2
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Underconstruction 1: Silence e.p.
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Underconstruction 2
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Il Grande Viaggio, vol. 1
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Some Experiments
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Suono Libero
    • Gigi D'Agostino - L'Amour Toujours E.P.
    • Gigi D'Agostino - L'Amour Toujours II
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Compilation Benessere1
    • Gigi D'Agostino - La Passion
    • Gigi D'Agostino - Bla Bla Bla
    • Gigi D'Agostino - L'Amour Toujours (the famous song itself)
    • Tiësto - Elements of Life
    • Tiësto - Elements of Life: Remixes (see my mock/example reviewhere)
    • Tiësto - In My Memory >> Remixes
    • Tiësto - In the Dark
    • Tiësto - Parade of the Athletes
    • Manian - Welcome to the Club
    • ItaloBrothers - Stamp on the Ground
    • DJ Satomi - Waves (the song he/she is most known for)
    • Eiffel 65 - Europop
    • O-Zone - DiscO-Zone
    • O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei
    • Erazor - Sleepwalker's Dream
    • Erazor - One Night in Bangkok
    • Basshunter - Now You're Gone: The Album
    • Rise Against - The Sufferer & the Witness
    • Smash Mouth - All Star Smash Hits
    • Goldfinger - The Best of Goldfinger
    • Coldplay - Viva la Vida
    • Coldplay - Prospekt's March

    • Our Lady Peace - Live!
    • Our Lady Peace - Clumsy

    • Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (anime version)
    • FLCL (anime version)
    • Death Note
  • Manga
    • SGT Frog
    • Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (manga version)
    • FLCL (manga version)
    • Rurouni Kenshin
    • Case Closed (manga version)
  • Video Games
    • Call of Duty: Finest Hour
    • Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
    • Call of Duty 2
    • Call of Duty 3
    • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
    • Call of Duty: World at War
    • RuneScape
      • RuneScape Classic re-launch
      • specific things about the game (e.g.: skills, minigames, updates, etc.)
    • Advance Wars: Dual Strike
    • Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
    • Nintendogs
    • Animal Crossing
    • Empire Earth
    • Sims 2 (DS version)
    • Turning Point: Fall of Liberty
    • Ghost Recon
    • Ghost Recon 2
    • Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
    • Guitar Hero II
    • Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
    • Guitar Hero: World Tour
    • Halo: Combat Evolved
    • Halo 2
    • Halo 3
    • Halo Wars
    • Stuntman: Ignition
    • Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Now, think about it. How many reviews would you be knowledgeable enough about to do? Plenty, I'm sure.

Name

With the initial idea of it being a personal wiki, I've had the URL planned to be "chiafriend12.wikia.com", but that seems a little selfish and/or narcisistic, doesn't it? And if I titled it after myself, why would other people want to contribute there? They probably wouldn't.

I have considered or still are considering the following names:

  • C Reviews
  • Chia Reviews
  • Wiki Reviews
  • Wikiviews
  • and loads of even worse ideas

So, if anyone has any better ideas, they would be gladly appreciated.

Ratings

The rating system would be based off of X-Play's rating system of just conveying whether or not the thing is good, and if it is good, whether it's just "meh" good, or "OMG THIS IZ GR8" good.

In stars, the ratings would be, more or less, as follows:

  • 1/5 - A negative review. The product is found to be bad or substandard by the reviewer.
  • 2/5 - A neutral or mixed review. The product is found to either be slightly bad, "meh", or barely good by the reviewer.
  • 3/5 - A positive review. The product is found to be good by the reviewer, but not one of the best in the field.
  • 4/5 - A better, but still positive, review. The product is found to be above average by the reviewer.
  • 5/5 - An outstanding review. The product is found to be great, and one of the best of the year (or even best ever) in its field.

Of course, if you were to help (see below), you could always put your own spin on how you use the stars.

Reviewers/Editors

Now, if it was just me who was reviewing everything, it would be boring and demanding for me. And since it would physically be a wiki, other users would be able to put up reviews as well, assuming they meet the following requirements:

  • Not being fail in grammar and spelling (hopefully good, for that matter)
  • Knowing when to and when not to be neutral in reviews. It is a review, so you can't just say it's the best game ever since you like the series, but you shouldn't be monotone and opinionless. Put some opinion into it, at least.

Collaborations

I've also considered to send out invitations to sysops on other Wikia wikis so that they can review whatever new thing that may have come out that's released to their wiki. For example, I've thought about having CommanderTony, Halopedia bureaucrat, review Halo 3: ODST if he would like, or some person from WoWWiki to review World of Warcraft if they can do it without just being outright biased (I'm not saying WoW players are biased, but I could easily see how some MMO competition would set in).

Other stuff

As to how the reviews would be set up, I'm thinking about something like this. Note that the infobox would be much better looking, and that the "Bad tracks" section (only applies to music reviews, mind you) would be subject for removal.

I hope for a launch by February.

Feedback is greatly appreciated! However, there are a few main questions I have to anyone reading this:

  1. Are you interested in this in any way, shape, or form?
  2. Would you be interested in reading the reviews?
  3. Would you want to help with the reviews?

Thanks, Sold to Azliq. :oChiafriend12Steel-toes are sooo yesterday. 08:02, November 13, 2009 (UTC)
